What's included
Most filters we replace in Middle Tennessee reach us the same way. The tank has cracked, the grids or manifold are no longer made, or the filter that came with the house is simply too small and needs cleaning every few weeks from spring pollen through fall leaves.
A filter that is wrong for the pool keeps costing you. An undersized filter loads up fast, pushes the pressure up and makes the pump work harder. Cloudy water follows, and extra shock will not fix it. A filter glued in with no unions or gauge also cannot be serviced without cutting pipe.
Our pool filter installation starts with sizing. We match the filter to your pump's flow and your pool's gallons, with room to spare, then choose cartridge, DE or sand for how the pool is used. We set it on the pad, plumb it with unions, fit a new gauge and air relief, pressure test it and record the clean pressure.
Is it time?
Most filter trouble is a cleaning or a single part, but these signs usually point to a pool filter replacement.
01
The pool filter tank is cracked or leaking from the body, not just a fitting.
02
Replacement grids, cartridges or a manifold for your filter model are discontinued.
03
Your pool filter needs cleaning every few weeks during Nashville pollen and leaf season.
04
Filter pressure stays high all the time after a new variable-speed pump went in.
05
A sand filter is backwashing large amounts of water and still leaves the pool dull.
06
The pool filter is well over a decade old and parts keep failing one after another.
Filter choices
Each filter type has a place. Cartridge filters need no backwash, save water and suit most residential pools, though the cartridges need regular hosing and eventual replacement. DE filters catch the finest particles and give the clearest water, but they involve adding DE powder and handling spent media. Sand filters are simple and forgiving, yet they filter more coarsely and waste water every time you backwash. For pools under heavy tree cover in Brentwood, Franklin or Belle Meade, we talk through leaf load and how often you want to clean before recommending one.
The flow rate of the pump decides the minimum filter size, and the pool's gallons and debris load decide how much bigger it should be. A filter rated right at the pump's maximum flow will load quickly and run at high pressure. We size up so the filter runs longer between cleanings, catches more of the spring pollen and summer debris, and lets the pump run at lower, quieter speeds. A larger filter also gives you more margin during a busy July in Middle Tennessee.
A new variable-speed pump often exposes an old filter. The pump can move more water at high speed than the old single-speed did, and an undersized filter answers with high pressure and short cleaning cycles. At low speed the same filter may barely register on the gauge. When we install a pump, we check whether the existing filter can handle its full flow. If it cannot, replacing the pool filter at the same visit keeps the whole pad working together and saves a second trip.
The details decide how easy the filter is to live with. We plumb the new filter with unions so it can be removed without cutting pipe, and set it in the right order on the pad relative to the pump, heater and any salt cell. Where the filter type needs one, we fit the correct valve. A new pressure gauge and air relief go on top, and after the pressure test we write the clean starting pressure on the tank so you and your technician know when it needs cleaning.
A new filter is only as good as its maintenance. The clean pressure we record is your baseline. When the gauge reads roughly eight to ten psi above it, the filter needs cleaning or backwashing. We show you where to look and what the numbers mean. If you are on our weekly route, your technician watches the gauge for you every visit, so the filter is cleaned on schedule through Nashville's pollen season, summer storms and fall leaf drop.

Many tree-covered pools do well with a large cartridge filter because it holds a lot of debris and needs no backwash. A DE filter is a good choice if you want the clearest possible water and do not mind the extra handling.
Yes. A larger pool filter usually runs longer between cleanings and at lower pressure, as long as it fits the pad and the plumbing can be adapted.
Not always. We check whether your current filter can handle the new pump's flow and only recommend a pool filter replacement if it cannot.
Yes. We remove and take away the old filter tank and any old sand, DE or cartridges as part of the pool filter installation.
