One-time jobs
A good weekly route keeps a pool clean and balanced. But over the years, Middle Tennessee pools collect problems that brushing and chemicals cannot solve. Leaf and algae stains settle into the plaster. Filter sand wears out. A pool sits under the cover too long and opens green. Equipment gets added one piece at a time with nothing tying it together.
That is where specialty pool services come in. An acid wash lifts stains and scale from the plaster. Green pool recovery brings a neglected pool back to clear water. A sand change restores a tired sand filter. Pool automation and salt systems change how the pool runs from that day on, with less work for you.
None of these jobs is routine, so each one starts with a look at the pool and a free, no-pressure quote before any work begins. John and Tammy have run Passion Pool Care as a family business since 2013, and the same honest approach applies here: if a job will not solve your problem, we will tell you.
Our specialty services
Each of these one-time jobs starts with a look at your pool and a free, no-pressure quote.
Stained or scaled plaster washed in sections, neutralized and refilled with balanced water.
Swamp to swimmable: a green, cloudy or neglected pool tested, shocked and filtered back to clear.
Pump, heater, valves and lights on one app, installed, programmed and repaired.
Chlorine to salt conversions and salt cell service for steadier chlorine and softer water.
Worn filter sand replaced and laterals checked so your sand filter clears the water again.
Is it time?
These are the problems a regular cleaning will not fix on its own.
01
Stains and scale on clean plaster that brushing and chlorine will not lift usually call for an acid wash.
02
A pool that has turned green or cloudy and stays that way after shocking needs green pool recovery.
03
Water that stays hazy right after a backwash on a sand filter often means it is time for a sand change.
04
Walking to the equipment pad to switch valves, heat the spa or reset a timer is a sign pool automation would help.
05
Rising chlorine tablet costs and red, stinging eyes after a swim are good reasons to look at a salt system.
06
A salt panel that reads low salt when the salt is fine usually means the salt cell needs service.
Choosing the job
Some jobs fall outside the weekly route. These are the specialty problems we see most often across Greater Nashville.
01
These two are easy to mix up. Green pool recovery treats the water: it kills algae, filters it out and rebalances the pool, usually with the water still in it. An acid wash treats the surface: the pool is drained and a thin layer of stained plaster is removed. A pool that is green today needs recovery first. Once the water is clear, any stains left on the plaster show up, and that is when we can tell you honestly if an acid wash is worth doing.
02
Automation and salt systems are upgrades rather than repairs, and they work well together. A controller runs a variable-speed pump on a schedule, turns the spa on from your phone, and adds freeze protection for cold Tennessee nights. A salt system makes chlorine from dissolved salt, so there are no tablets to haul and the water feels softer. On a controller, the salt cell's output can be set by season. We look at the equipment already on your pad and recommend what fits, working with all major brands.
03
A sand filter is simple, but the sand inside it wears out. Over years the grains round off and clump together with oils and minerals, and water starts tunneling through the bed instead of being filtered. Backwashing no longer helps. A sand change replaces the old sand with fresh #20 silica sand or glass media, and it is the right time to check the laterals and standpipe for cracks. If your pool water stays hazy after a backwash, this is often why.
04
Sometimes the water itself is the problem. After years of chlorine tablets, stabilizer can climb so high that chlorine barely works, and calcium can build up as water evaporates and is topped off. No chemical removes those, so the fix is to replace some or all of the water. A drain needs care: exposed plaster should not sit in hot sun, and a saturated clay soil after heavy rain can push on an empty shell. We check the hydrostatic relief first and plan the refill so the water goes back balanced.

FAQ
Still have a question? Call or text (615) 624-7624.
Every specialty job depends on the pool and what it needs, so we look first. The quote is free and no-obligation. Call (615) 624-7624.
Usually not. Most green pools clear with the water in them through testing, balancing, shocking and filtering. Draining is saved for pools that chemistry cannot bring back.
If the problem is stains or scale on the plaster, an acid wash. If the problem is high stabilizer or calcium in the water, a drain and refill. Some pools need both.
For many owners, yes. Chlorine stays steadier and the water feels softer. Salt cells do slow down in cold water, so spring and fall may need a chlorine boost.
